The short explanation of this alert was:

White Cap's managers keep two to three union busters at its San Francisco area warehouses to harass and intimidate workers, denying these men and women, drivers and dock workers, maintenance and office staff, their rights to discuss or form a union – guaranteed rights of free speech and assembly.

These union busters conduct captive audience meetings designed to discredit union supporters in front of co-workers and instill fear among those who would vote for union representation. When workers try to voice opposing viewpoints or even ask questions, these union busters shout them down, denying the workers their chance to defend themselves and the benefits of a union.

The union busters also shadow workers they think might be swayed against the union. They ride along with drivers all day, subject employees to endless anti-union propaganda and deny their staff the basic right to privacy – the right to be left alone to make their own decisions.

Some employees have reported that the union busters are extorting them, saying they have recorded conversations that would be played for the bosses if the employees side with the union.

White Cap has hung "Vote No" banners in the workplace, but when workers display "Vote Yes" signs on their personal vehicles, they are vandalized.

Despite the constant intimidation and harassment, the White Cap employees will not be discouraged. Their unity is stronger than ever. But they need your support.

Send a letter to White Cap's managers voicing your disgust with their anti-union tactics. Tell them that America is about fairness, dignity and freedom. Tell them that you will not tolerate union busting and the abuse of working people.

Support these workers in their fight for a living wage, affordable health care and respect on the job.
