Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA)
The era of corporate dominance run amok under the Bush administration must end. Workers are increasingly struggling to achieve the American Dream. The middle class is disappearing.
But there is hope. The House of Representatives, bolstered by the voters' demand for change in last year's mid-term elections, passed this bipartisan legislation to protect the rights of workers attempting to form unions. Now it must go before the Senate where anti-worker lawmakers are threatening to filibuster. President Bush has also promised to veto the measure.
The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) is landmark legislation that would put democracy back in the workplace and protect workers from the abuses of anti-union employers.
Your senators and the White House need to hear from you. It's time to strengthen the protections for American workers who wish to exercise their right to form a union. Use this form to tell your Senators to vote YES on EFCA, and to tell the president to stand with the middle class, not big corporate interests.

Subject: Support the Employee Free Choice Act
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to urge you to vote YES on the bipartisan Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) when it comes before the Senate.
EFCA would guarantee workers are afforded a fair chance to choose union representation and ensure strong wages, affordable health care and safe working conditions without the fear of losing their jobs.
Almost 60 million American workers would join a union if provided with the opportunity to do so, according to a survey conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates. Unfortunately, many workers are not afforded the chance. Those who do have an opportunity are intimidated and threatened by their employer.
Every 23 minutes, a worker is fired or harassed for trying to unionize--right here in America, the land of the free. Employers intimidate, coerce and threaten workers attempting to exercise their right to form a union on a regular basis. In fact, pro-union workers are fired in a quarter of all organizing drives.
American workers deserve better than this and, by supporting EFCA, you can help them get it.
The enactment of EFCA would guarantee that workers receive a fair chance to choose union representation and ensure strong wages, affordable health care and safe working conditions without the fear of losing their jobs.
I urge you to join the House of Representatives and pass this measure that is so important to millions of American working families.
Sincerely,
|
