In a true testament of why we need the Employee Free Choice Act, the Teamsters’ campaign to organize UPS Freight workers by way of authorization cards proves that, given the opportunity, workers will join a union. Keep up with this historical campaign where more than 9,000 workers exercised their right to join the union in fewer than three months.

Safety and Health
Workers' Memorial Day is April 28th
Each year the Teamsters Union honors the hardworking men and women killed or injured on the job. As the Union acknowledges their injuries or passing, we continue to fight for worker safety with the ultimate goal to eliminate preventable job accidents. To mark this important day, the Teamsters are providing resources online to help with the planning of activities at local unions and job sites.

Teamsters: Time to Run UAL Like a Company, Not a Tag Sale
When United Airlines announced that it intended to cut capacity and then ground as many as 20 airplanes, the Teamsters piped up and said it was time for UAL’s CEO, Glenn Tilton, to run the airline like a company, not a tag sale. "Glenn Tilton is all too willing to cut the fleet and slash workers’ wages, but he’s not so eager to trim his own exorbitant pay package," said General President Jim Hoffa.

Defending its Scam Illegal Contractor Model, FedEx is Late to the Bargaining Table
Though the drivers at two Massachusetts FedEx facilities, who drive in the company’s profits day in and day out overwhelmingly voted to join Local 25 in October 2006, the company continues to prolong getting to a contract. "FedEx is repeating its mistakes," said Sean O’Brien, President of Local 25. "These drivers and Local 25 are ready to talk and get a contract, but FedEx insists on delaying the process and raising the stakes with an appeal that will only result in another legal setback to its scam contractor model.”

Teamsters Smiled as Senator Mark Pryor Told Arrogant Department of Transportation Secretary Mary Peters, "There Will Be Consequences!"
The lawbreaking member of the Bush administration, Mary Peters, sounded like a broken record when she repeated her tired old argument that she’s within the law by keeping the border open to unsafe Mexican trucks at a Congressional hearing earlier this month. Peters was accompanied by the DOT General Counsel, a guy whose only qualification seems to be from his previous gig as the field director for the Christian Coalition.

Change to Win
What Obama Did
Obama's speech was different. It was, in a word, honest. Honest about the good and bad deeds that lie in our history; honest about the ways that honorable people of all races have been led astray by the legacy of those deeds; and honest about the ways that some others have cynically manipulated these legacies to serve their own ends.
