GM and Chrysler: Don't Destroy American Jobs

Greetings,

General Motors and Chrysler took more than $60 billion of American taxpayers’ money in the bailout.

This huge sum was given under the condition that the companies restructure themselves so that they focus on saving good American jobs and creating fuel-efficient cars.

So why are these companies charging American consumers mandatory “destination fees” of up to $900, or more, which have no relation to the actual cost of transporting the vehicle?

Worse yet, GM and Chrysler are not living up to their pledge and are throwing professional auto delivery drivers onto the unemployment lines. They are replacing them with carriers using less reliable drivers at substandard pay. Some of these “alternative” carriers are hauling new cars with flat bed trucks or other transporters not designed to protect new cars over long distances.

American taxpayers will be asked to pay for the greed of the auto giants a second time when they pick up the costs for more unemployment, more foreclosures and more ruined working families.

Please take action now and ask the members of Congress overseeing the bailout to demand that these companies live up to their promises and stop gouging consumers and destroying good middle-class jobs.

Subject: GM and Chrysler: Don't Destroy American Jobs

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

The American taxpayers bailed out Chrysler with $14 billion and General Motors with $50 billion of our hard-earned wages. This bailout was meant to save jobs and allow deserving American corporations to survive.

But now both GM and Chrysler want to throw professional auto delivery drivers onto the unemployment lines and replace them with carriers using less reliable drivers. Many of these replacement drivers come with little experience, inadequate training, no accountability, and inadequate equipment. Some of them are hauling new cars with flat bed trucks or other equipment which is not designed to protect new cars over long distances.

GM and Chrysler are betraying the faith of the American taxpayers who thought GM and Chrysler would repay them with gratitude and loyalty instead of greed.

Please tell GM and Chrysler to stop destroying families and stop dumping loyal American workers.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

What's At Stake:
GM and Chrysler received more than $60 billion in taxpayer bailout dollars, with the promise that they would save jobs. But GM and Chrysler now want to throw professional auto delivery drivers onto the unemployment lines. These workers have already taken steep wage cuts to ensure the long-term viability of the auto industry and of auto carrier companies. Please ask the congresspersons who oversee the auto bailout to tell GM and Chrysler to stop destroying good jobs.
