Ask Your Representative to Tell GM and Chrysler: Don't Destroy American Jobs
Dear friend,
The taxpayer funded
bailout of General Motors (GM) and Chrysler, to the tune of more
than $60 billion, was meant to save jobs and allow deserving
American corporations to survive. But GM and Chrysler now want
to throw professional auto delivery drivers onto the
unemployment lines and replace them with carriers using less
reliable drivers.
The restructuring of the
auto industry required shared sacrifice not just of the
companies, but also of the suppliers and auto delivery
employees. Auto delivery employees have already taken steep wage
cuts, upwards of 17.5 percent, to ensure the long-term viability
of the auto industry and of auto carrier companies. Even if the
automakers make these cuts, the cost savings would be very
small. Even worse, this cost reduction would not be passed on to
either dealers or consumers.
Representative Joe Baca from California is collecting
signatures for a letter to GM and Chrysler to help save these
jobs. Please help by sending an e-mail to your Representative
today asking for sign-on to this important letter.

Subject: Please Tell GM and Chrysler: Don't Destroy American Jobs
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
The American taxpayers bailed out Chrysler with $14 billion and General Motors with $50 billion of our hard-earned wages. This bailout was meant to save jobs and allow deserving American corporations to survive.
But now both GM and Chrysler want to throw professional auto delivery drivers onto the unemployment lines and replace them with carriers using less reliable drivers. We believe many of these replacement drivers come with comparatively little experience, inadequate training, no accountability, and inadequate equipment. Some of them are hauling new cars with flat bed trucks or other equipment which is not designed to protect new cars over long distances.
GM and Chrysler are betraying the faith of the American taxpayers who thought GM and Chrysler would repay them with gratitude and loyalty instead of greed.
Representative Joe Baca from California is collecting signatures for a letter to GM and Chrysler to help save these good-paying jobs and to keep skilled drivers on the roads. Please sign on to Representative Baca's letter and tell GM and Chrysler to stop destroying families and stop dumping loyal American workers.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
